Consistent Performance by Intent

When we decided to reinvent rechargeable batteries at Paleblue, we set our aims on creating a whole new generation of batteries, better than ever in every way possible. We had many fundamental decisions and tradeoffs to manage in order to make about what would make the best batteries possible. What chemistry and the associated attributes and benefits, what means of charging would we choose, how would we design the user interface and user experience, etc.
Design tradeoffs are part of the product design territory and innovation. When you are pushing to improve the ultimate benefits of a product for the end user, you will find that many things need to be considered - sometimes cost or aesthetics, sometimes weight or size or ergonomics, or even core functionality. The creative and dedicated innovators and designers will not give up at first sign of an apparent tradeoff in their path, that’s when the work begins. We need to roll up our sleeves and get creative. This is where Paleblue really thrives and where we are invigorated - solving important and hard to resolve challenges.
Clearly, Li-ion is the best in class category of chemistries to start with. And, fortunately for us, Li-ion has a high native voltage - ‘a lot of power under the hood’ is how we think of it. This opened up a lot of options for how to design our batteries’ electrical performance. We weren’t limited by using older, lower performing chemistries such as alkaline, NiMH, NiCad, etc.
One fundamental decision was the electrical performance attributes, including what sort of voltage profile (how would the voltage vary, or not, as the battery is used over time). This was a topic of much debate, but a decision was made that we stick firmly to – the best battery should and should deliver consistent power from start to finish. That’s our opinion, but more than that, it’s an obvious claim that we believe is nothing less than true.
